Ivan Ivanov

Connect Program Facilitation Fellow Spring 2021

Country of origin: Bulgaria

Date started with Soliya: 2018

Education and field of work: I have a bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering at the Technical University of Sofia, where I was VP of ESTIEM (European Students of Industrial Engineering). I completed an internship at ACSESO where I was trained as a youth worker and enrolled in Soliya’s Facilitation Training. I was a facilitator and ambassador of Erasmus+ Virtual Exchange for Bulgaria.

One accomplishment you're proud of: Volunteering in Uganda where, with a group of dedicated folks, we worked to educate and build a better life for the children there. We did a successful campaign in which we raised money and built a system that filtrates rainwater into drinkable water. You can find details here: https://gogetfunding.com/birthday-fundraising-campaign-water-installation-for-the-kids-at-kyda/

What about Soliya inspires/motivates you to be involved? Teamwork makes dream work! Being surrounded by a community of supportive facilitators and great people who are committed to helping individuals recognize the value of diversity through dialogue, creates an atmosphere that's conducive to success and I love that! There is a feeling of fulfillment when I see how diverse groups progress, engage with each other, and are comfortable sharing personal stories and experiences. I also enjoy seeing moments of discovery that came from seemingly opposite folks finding connection over a hobby or similar passion.

What can you be found doing when not working/facilitating/training? You can find me snowboarding -- I am very passionate about it and in general, I love being active and moving, so I spend a lot of time outdoors running, hiking, swimming, surfing, etc.

Favorite food: Tough one -- I would say sushi!

Additional roles within Soliya: Senior Facilitator
