1YC Fellow Summer 2020; Facilitation Fellow, Spring 2017
Country of origin: USA
Date started with Soliya: 2012
Education and field of work: I am a facilitator, conservationist, and sustainability consultant. Over the years I have worked with a diverse set of clients to bridge communication and technical gaps between scientists and policymakers in both the Netherlands and the United States. I have a B.A. in Global Politics & Economics from California State University at Monterey Bay and an M.S. in Sustainability Science & Policy from Maastricht University in the Netherlands. I specialize in climate resilience and adaptation to environmental change, and I delight in any opportunity to create more productive conversations between those who study and manage our environment.
What about Soliya inspires/motivates you to be involved? Watching gears turn, lightbulbs go off, and realizations click. It only takes one participant to leave the semester with a better understanding of effective communication to consider my time with Soliya worth every moment. It also helps that each semester brings new insight into my own facilitation practice!
What can you be found doing when not working/facilitating/training? I currently live among the live oak and redwood trees of California's Central Coast. You will find me outside hiking the coastal trails, swimming in the Pacific Ocean, or gardening at home.
Favorite food: Sake steamed salmon, simmered in teriyaki.
