Oya Yılmaz Kermany
Connect Program Facilitation Fellow Spring 2021
Country of origin: Turkey
Date started with Soliya: 2018
Education and field of work: After getting my degree in International Relations, I have been working within various NGOs so far in the fields of youth and arts. I'm also an interpreter/translator specialized in theatre. I continue my education with intensive trainings focused on conflict management, interfaith dialogue, and human rights.
One accomplishment you're proud of: Growing up, I'd dream of working in an international environment where I can get to meet new people from all around the globe, and I consider myself successful when I look at where I am today. Through dialogue facilitation, I've achieved the skills and confidence that make me hopeful for my future.
What about Soliya inspires/motivates you to be involved? It inspires me a lot to work with young people from different cultures utilizing dialogue as a tool to promote empathy, critical thinking, and collaboration. It's always been an exciting journey that keeps me up to date and I'm enjoying every minute of it!
What can you be found doing when not working/facilitating/training? You can see me making puppets and theatre masks most of the time! I enjoy making concrete and cute props that can actually be used on stage. I also enjoy diving into modern Japanese literature, painting, and singing when I'm alone! :)
Favorite food: Anything sour and spicy! I prefer pickles to chocolate anytime. Mexican food, especially tacos with guacamole, is my all-time favorite.
Additional roles within Soliya: Senior Facilitator; Training Moderator
