Sara Al Hussien
Country of origin: Jordan
Date started with Soliya: 2018
Education and field of work: I am currently doing the last semester of my Bachelor degree in German and English. Alongside facilitating for Soliya, I worked as a freelance translator for a while where I translated academic research papers. Currently, I am also working on writing my very first middle-grade fantasy novel.
One accomplishment you're proud of: I do not really think of life or things I have achieved or overcome as accomplishments. I view life as a set of goals and when I achieve them, they simply become experiences that I am grateful for. In that light, I am grateful for the experience of having lived in another country where there was so much diversity which provided me with the groundworks for all the interests that I have. I am grateful for the opportunities my parents worked so hard to provide me with. I am also very grateful to be a part of an incredible organization like Soliya and the mission we have of making dialogue more prevalent and difference celebrated.
What about Soliya inspires/motivates you to be involved? The relationships built between participants, no matter how short the time spent together. It always astonishes me how in the matter of weeks, complete strangers are able to have heated conversations about the topics they care about the most, can disagree and still have respect towards one another. It’s incredible how with the right tools and the right atmosphere youth are able to achieve what many older and wiser seem to struggle with their entire lives. Dialogue in its simplicity can be quite difficult to achieve for many people, and witnessing it firsthand feels like a privilege I never want to take for granted.
