Soliya CEO Waidehi Gokhale joined Mohamed Abdel-Kader, Executive Director of the Stevens Initiative; Chris Plutte, Managing Director of the Bezos Family Foundation; and Wendy Kopp, co-founder and CEO of Teach for All, for a panel on virtual exchange at the Aspen Ideas Festival. Titled "Virtual Exchange: Building Empathy and Human Connection Through Digital Story Telling," the panel explored how facilitated, cross-cultural discussions inspire in young adults the curiousity and willigness to better understand both the self and the other.
Youth Engagement Officer Dorra Amara and Connect Program Manager Myriam Labidi presented a tech-demo of Soliya's virtual exchange platform at RightsCon, the world’s leading summit on human rights in the digital age, in Tunis. Dorra and Myriam spoke about how our platform, the Exchange Portal, was specifically designed for empathy, our innovation in bringing people together and enabling inclusion through dialogue across differences. Soliya's Finance & Operations Manager Ahmed Ghamgui and Engagement Programs Intern Yosr Salhi also attended as conference volunteers.
Soliya's Youth Engagement Officer Dorra Amara presented at the Youth, Education, and Mobility Forum for civil society in Malta, speaking on the potential virtual exchange offers in widening access to education and bringing the two shores of the Mediterranean. The forum is organized by the Anna Lindh Foundation and the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Trade Promotion of the Republic of Malta and is supported by the European Commission. The forum is a run-up to the Summit of the Two Shores – Mediterranean Forum, an initiative of French President Emmanuel Macron.
Soliya, IREX, iEARN, and Design Squad Global presented on a joint panel at the 2019 CIES Conference, discussing virtual exchange in relation to the conference theme of education for sustainability. Erkinaz Shuminov, Soliya's Development Officer, presented on how Soliya's technology, evidence-based evaluation, and use of facilitators together serve to maximize long-term impact through the development of global competence in college-aged youth.
